Bridgend Male Choir Committee

The Bridgend Male Choir has been established in South Wales since August 1960, and has a long history of competition successes. The concerts given by the Bridgend Choir are usually in aid of worthy charities, and we are proud to have helped raise in excess of £1 Million pounds for good causes. The following individuals currently oversee the organisation of the Bridgend Male Choir and the concerts we give, as well as enjoying singing with the Choir.

After 11 years as a loyal Vice President to his good friend, Mansel Abraham, John succeeded Mansel at the 2011 AGM. John has sung with the Baritone Section since 1988. He is the former Chair of the Music Committee. John has been a partner in a successful local architects and surveyors practice for the past 40 years.

David Burt
David has sung with the Tenors since 1995 and has held a number of offices within the Choir. Originally from Brynmenyn, he is now retired & lives in Town with his wife. A Patron & Trustee of Bridgend Athletic RFC, he spent his working life in the banking & insurance industry. He took on the Vice Chairman's role and Chair of the Music Sub Committee in 2011

Secretary, Gareth Reese, is one of the youngest choir members and head of a musically talented family. He has sung with the Second tenor section since 1992. A secondary school teacher by profession, Gareth lives in Coychurch with Irish wife Jacqui and two children.

Lifelong chorister & second tenor, Jim, joined the Choir in 1982 has served the Committee in excess of 25 years holding a variety of offices. Retired from the Police Force, he is married to Ruth and lives at Bridgend.

Mike Price
Treasurer and Second Tenor, Mike Price has sung with the Choir since 1972 having sung with other Choirs previously. A retired Industrial Chemist with two adult children, he lives in Bridgend.

Peter Davis

Peter Davis
A retired Company Director, Peter joined the Choir in 2005. Long associated with the stage in his locality, he is now a keen supporter of the Macmillan Cancer Charity. He lives with his wife at Newton, Porthcawl.

Gareth Davies

Bryncethin born Librarian, Gareth Davies also fulfils the role of Concert Compere and has sung with the Bass Section since 1999.  Having spent a lifetime in the transport industry, he is retired leaving him time to enjoy his favourite pastimes, his grandchildren and travelling, with his wife Irene. He lives in Bridgend.

"Tim" has sung with the second tenors since 1999. After retiring from the RAF Education Branch, he worked five years in Cardiff University before permanently retiring.  As well as the Choir, he devotes time to the activities of the Bridgend Lions Club. He lives with his wife, Leila, in Pen-y-Fai.

Welsh speaking Tenor, Alun Guile was born in Cefn Cribbwr, but spent many of his formative years in north and west Wales, returning to Bridgend in 1971. A retired school teacher, he joined Bridgend Male Choir in 1988. He is married to Mari & has one daughter & two grandchildren.

A Choir Life Member, Alun joined the Choir in 1967. A Welsh speaker, he was brought up in Ffestiniog and has a lifelong passion for music and choral singing. Retired from the electricity generating industry, he is married and lives at Laleston.

After a break of one year, Mansel returned to the Committee in 2012 bringing the benefit of vast experience to the Choir management. He is also a Choir Patron and lives at Bridgend.

Geraint Hopkins

Geraint has being singing with choirs since 1964. A former primary school head teacher at Camberwell, he lived at Oxford Circus W1. A member of London Welsh MVC for 28 years, he was Chairman for a number of years. He now lives at Pencoed, which is considerably quieter than Central London.

Baritone, Brian, has sung with the Choir since 2000, his love of singing continuing from his beloved Bridgend Athletic RFC, where he is a Life Member and regularly gives a song (or several). A newsagent & gas fitter, he is married to Sheena and has one daughter and two grandchildren
