Bridgend Male Choir Committee

The Bridgend Male Choir has been established in South Wales since August 1960, and has a long history of competition successes. The concerts given by the Bridgend Choir are usually in aid of worthy charities, and we are proud to have helped raise in excess of £1 Million pounds for good causes. The following individuals currently oversee the organisation of the Bridgend Male Choir and the concerts we give, as well as enjoying singing with the Choir.


Gareth J. Davies

Bryncethin born Gareth assumed the role of Chairman in 2015 after serving the previous 2 years as Vice Chairman & 13 years as Librarian. A retired chartered transport professional, he worked in the private & public sectors. A Patron of Bridgend Athletic RFC, he lives in Bridgend. With wife Irene, he enjoys foreign travel & looking after their 4 grandchildren. A bass chorister, busy Gareth is also concert compere.

Vice Chairman

John Gould

John Gould
Chairman & Vice Chairman for 4 & 11 years respectively, John stepped down at the 2015 AGM to become a "back bencher" lending his experience to the committee. He became VC again during 2016, willingly offering his services. Also a former Chair of the Music Sub Committee, John has sung with the Baritone Section since 1987. He is a successful local architect and surveyor and has been in practice for more than 40 years.


Gareth Reese

Secretary, Gareth Reese, is one of the youngest choir members and head of a musically talented family. He has sung with the Second tenor section since 1992. A secondary school teacher by profession, Gareth lives in Coychurch with wife Jacqui and two children.

Assistant Secretary

Dr. Peter K Morgan

Dr. Peter Morgan
Having sung with several choirs, Peter joined the baritone section of BMC in 2014. He has taught in schools and universities, as well as serving a period with the RAF Education Branch and also enjoying a secondary career as a professional actor. He now teaches at Cardiff University as an Honorary Research Fellow and lives with his wife, Janet, in Brackla.


Mike Price

Mike Price
Second Tenor, Mike Price has sung with the Choir since 1972 having sung with other Choirs previously. Mike was Treasurer for many years before relinquishing the role & stepping into a support role. Proving that you can't keep a good man down, Mike returned to the role when required during 2016. A retired Industrial Chemist with two adult children, he lives in Bridgend.

After a break of one year, Mansel returned to the Committee in 2012 bringing the benefit of vast experience to the Choir management. He is also a Choir Patron and lives at Bridgend.

Chair Music Sub-Committee

Roger Price

Roger Price
Roger hails from a strongly musical family. His parents were accomplished musicians - his mother was taught piano by John Hughes (brother of Arwel and uncle to Owain Arwel). Her older brother, John Haydn Davies was himself a conductor of great distinction with Treorchy Male Choir in their Halcyon years with numerous successes in eisteddfodau. As Chair of BMC’s Music Sub-Committee Roger hopes to play his part in assisting the choir by bringing his experience as head of Arts & Entertainment for many years with the local authority to bear. He was for 36 years very much involved with the South Wales Miners’ Eisteddfod at Porthcawl. This was an association with which he was most proud and which led to his being admitted in 2000 to the Gorsedd at the Llanelli National Eisteddfod.


C James Thomas

C J THOMAS - Committee
Lifelong chorister & second tenor, Jim, joined the Choir in 1982 & has served the Committee in a number of roles in excess of 25 years. He is currently Librarian. Retired from the Police Force, widower Jim lives at Bridgend and holidays regularly with family in Portugal's sunnier climes.

Martin Cadogan

Martin is a newbie to singing, having joined the Choir in September 2015.  Retired in 2010 from the Environment Agency after 37 years working in the Rivers Section.  He is married to Teresa and has two sons and a granddaughter (who takes up a lot of his time).  Martin sings with the Baritones and is still learning the trade.


Alun Guile

Welsh speaking Tenor, Alun Guile was born in Cefn Cribbwr, but spent many of his formative years in north and west Wales, returning to Bridgend in 1971. A retired school teacher, he joined Bridgend Male Choir in 1988. He is married to Mari & has one daughter & two grandchildren.


John Barrey

John a former committee member has been with the choir since 2005. A former Metropolitan Police Officer and member of his poilce choir with 30 yrs service and has 30 yrs experience of male voice choir singing. John is single and lives in Bridgend. His hobbies include looking after his 2 working Labradors and acting as a bailiff for the Ogmore Angling Association.


Russell Lewis

Bass chorister, Russell joined the Choir a few short years ago fulfilling a lifetime's ambition. Keen to help the Choir in any capacity, he was co-opted on to the Committee in 2014 & voted into the role one year later. A Radiographer, he lives in Bridgend with his family.


Alun Roberts-Jones

Alan Roberts Jones - Committee
A Choir Life Member, Alun joined the Choir in 1967. A Welsh speaker, he was brought up in Ffestiniog and has a lifelong passion for music and choral singing. Retired from the electricity generating industry, he is married and lives at Laleston. Type: Summary
