Bridgend Male Choir was delighted to perform at the weekend at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Bridgend in its Annual Friendship Concert in aid of Church funds. David Burt writes......
Under the baton of its popular musical director, John Jenkins and with accompanists Laura Smith and Scott Williams, on piano and organ respectively the choristers were on top form receiving a standing ovation from an appreciative audience.
Featuring with the Choir again, was the appealing voice of Bridgend teenager, Hannah Vivian-Byrne who thrilled concert goers with her four songs, most particularly with the popular Hallellujah & also receiving a standing ovation. Hannah was accompanied by her father, Kieran. Equally entertaining on the evening was the school choir of St Mary’s Primary School with their carols old and new, under the direction of Gillian Weale. This young choir is a credit to its conductor, the School and the children’s parents and thoroughly deserved its lengthy applause.
Organist, Scott Williams from Brackla enchanted all present with a medley of French tunes and later in the programme with a selection from Felix Mendelssohn and has, together with pianist, Laura Smith, become instrumental to the senior Choir’s continuing success. Its only soloist to sing during the evening was the sprightly John Morgan who sang Lily of the Valley, a recently resurrected solo piece which he first sang an amazing 40 years previously.
