After Bridgend Male Choir's very successful tour to the Scottish Highlands, choristers prepare for further cross border excursions, this time into England.
On September 18th the Choir entertains at St Michael the Archangel Church in the beautiful town of Lyme Regis supporting the Organ Appeal, in what has become a welcome regular visit. This beautiful Church was reputedly built in Saxon times and modernised by the Normans in AD1120 before the most recent major repairs were completed just 17 years ago. Choristers enjoy the venue for its location, acoustic and friendly welcome.
Three weeks later on October 8th, the Choir participates at the Mole Valley Arts Alive Festival giving a Concert at St Mary & St Nicholas Parish Church, Leatherhead in aid of Church funds. The venue is close to the scenic Surrey Hills between Heathrow and Gatwick. It is thought that the Royal Founder of the Church was Edward the Confessor in the Eleventh Century with early reference to its location in the Domesday Book. More recent links, including one to Pepys' Diary contribute to a living history over the past one thousand years. Another beautiful Church, the venue has become another regular destination sharing enjoyment for similar reasons as the September engagement.
Sandwiched in between the Churches visits is the opportunity for Bridgend Male Choir to support H M Forces by performing for its invited guests at a “Battle of Britain Ball”, alongside other entertainment at RAF St Athan. Supporting the Charity, “Help for Heroes” choristers take great pride in supporting servicemen and women.
The Choir's next public performance in South Wales is in its home town at its Annual Concert at St Mary's Catholic Church on October 21st. Principal guest artist, Llio Evans is well known to the Choir having performed jointly previously. Keep the date free – other details will appear in future articles.
