MAX BOYCE LIVE SHOW

Friday 07 November 2008

Choir Patron, Max Boyce invited the Choir to appear in two of his "live" stage shows.

Choristers were this week delighted to have the opportunity to join one of its Patrons on stage, when Max Boyce invited the Choir to appear in his “Max Boyce Live” Show at the Wales Millennium Theatre on Cardiff Bay on two consecutive evenings.

Under its effervescent Musical Director, John Jenkins and gifted Accompanist, Laura Smith, the Choir followed well known Welsh comedian Colin Price onto the stage. As the choristers lined up, Colin’s references to the cast of the film, Cocoon & Dads Army brought laughter from the capacity audiences, as did the rest of his delivery.

Opening with the well known Welsh hymn Rachie, the Choir was soon into the full flow of its half hour appearance. The performance included other hymns sung in both Welsh and English, spirituals, ballads and items from stage shows. All proved popular with an enthusiastic audience, non more so than Bring Him Home from Les Miserables and Sweet Charity’s foot tapping Rhythm of Life. The audience, clearly enjoying themselves, gave rapturous applause to tenor chorister, Leon Evans who again effortlessly engrossed them with his contribution to Emrys Evans’ Morte Criste.

Reluctant to allow the Choir to depart, encore requests brought agreement from Compere, Gareth Davies for a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone from the musical, Carousel. A standing ovation concluded the Choir’s contribution, before choristers took their seats for the treat to follow. They were not to be disappointed.

Max Boyce arrived on stage with a smile from ear to ear & draped in the Welsh Flag to a rapturous welcome. He provided a superb performance expectedly and energetically characterising much of Wales in his content, more of which can be read in the Show Reviews. What a wonderful place to sing, especially when supporting one of Wales’s most proud entertainers.
