MEMORIAL CONCERT FOR THE LATE JOHN JENKINS

Sunday 28 October 2012

Bridgend Male Choir to sing at memorial concert for the late John Jenkins

Bridgend Male Choir will be performing in the splendid Brangwyn Hall, Swansea at 7.00pm on Sunday 28 October 2012 in a concert dedicated to the memory of John Jenkins, who was Musical Director of the choir until his untimely death in January 2012.

The concert promises to provide a feast of music appropriate to the celebration of the life of John, known to so many simply as “JJ”. The concert will celebrate and reflect John’s work from The Glam Days, Neath Boys’ Grammar School, Neath Symphony Orchestra, West Glamorgan Music Service through to his retirement years with Treorchy Male Choir, Rhos Cwmtawe, Gower Chorale, and Bridgend Male Choir. An orchestra and a brass ensemble will be formed for the concert from musicians who studied and worked with JJ over the years. The orchestra will be conducted by Michael Bell and Philip Emanuel; the brass ensemble by Tony Small. Other contributions will come from Karl Daymond, baritone, Gordon Back, piano soloist, Rachel Bartel, harpist, and a mixed choir formed from choristers who have previously sung under JJ’s direction. Bridgend Male Choir will perform under the baton of Rhiannon Williams-Hale with Laura Smith as accompanist and Scott Williams, organist.

Former student, broadcaster, comedian and actor Kevin Johns will host the concert. The proceeds will go towards the new John Jenkins Memorial Prize for young musicians aged up to 21 years, which will be launched in 2013.

Tickets are available at £5 from www.ticketsource.co.uk/brangwynhall
