SUCCESSFUL VISIT TO KENT

Sunday 27 April 2014

A little part of Bridgend Borough's music and culture was shared in the garden of England at the weekend.

Bridgend Male Choir made it's way to the Kent seaside town of Hythe to perform at its wonderful St Leonard's Church. Having performed in previous years at Canterbury and Folkestone, this was the choristers' third visit to the county.

A full Church with a knowledgeable 250 congregation welcomed the tourists and showed great appreciation. I say “knowledgeable”, as this Church stages concerts both vocal and orchestral each weekend throughout its season of music. The Choir, led by Musical Director, Rhiannon Williams-Hale and supported by Accompanists, Stephanie Bailey and Scott Williams went through a varied and well chosen programme. The control, particularly with the quiet singing, was special and drew a standing ovation and much post concert praise. All participants during the evening were from the Bridgend Male Choir. Scott Williams entertained on organ and vocal contributions came from Gwyn Williams, Gareth Reese and its ladies, Rhiannon and Stephanie. Compère, Gareth Davies was his usual ebullient self.

Such visits are invariably followed with post concert singing at a local hotel or hostelry and this afterglow was one of the very best. Many of the congregation and the Kent based family of visiting father and son choristers Bill & Wayne Hodge joined the enjoyment well into the early hours. A great time had by all.
