The Bridgend Male Choir will be holding their 45th Annual Concert on Friday 7th October at 7.00pm in St Mary’s RC Church, Ewenny Road, Bridgend.
The Choir has been involved successfully this year in competition; notably winning the Male Voice section of S4C’s Côr Cymru competition at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre back in February. At the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July, the choir achieved 4th spot in its first attendance at this premier world music festival, gaining plaudits from the adjudicators.
The Choir is pleased to be back making music in Bridgend in this concert which is a commemoration of the ending of the Second World War 60 years ago. A number of new items are included in the programme: Gareth Glyn’s rousing “Heriwn, Wynebwn y Wawr”, Eric Jones’s haunting arrangement of “Ar lan y môr”, and Mike Sammes classic arrangement, “Music of the Night” from Lloyd-Webber’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’
Guest soloist for the evening will be Dunvant-born bass-baritone Martin Lloyd who has appeared with many South Wales male voice choirs. His own success in competition underlines the quality of his singing, winning the Baritone solo at the National Eisteddfod in 1998, Bass solo in 1999, 2000, and 2004, where he also won the prestigious Blue Riband. Martin has sung alongside the choir once before, at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea back in the summer, raising money for the charity ‘Guide Dogs for the Blind’.
The choir’s own soloists will be singing some favourite wartime songs to add to the flavour of the evening, which will close with the poignant words from Laurence Binyon’s poem “The Fallen”, the music again arranged by Mike Sammes.
Tickets are priced at £7.00 and are available from choir members or by contacting the choir, which you can do through this website.
