Bridgend Male Choir, winners of the Welsh Fusiliers Cup at the last Welsh National Eisteddfod have further competitions planned where they hope to build upon their success.
Having entered television company, S4C’s Cor Cymru Competition they have reached the semi-finals of the overall competition and will compete in the Male Choir final at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on the evening of Saturday, 5th February. The Choir will take to the stage after the Wales vs. England Six Nations opener and their entry will go out on S4C later the same evening. Four new choristers are included in the line-up for what should be an interesting debut. Should Bridgend Male be successful, they will return to Aberystwyth at the month end to meet the winners of each section in the Cor Cymru competition.
The Choir is also thrilled to have been accepted to participate in the Male Choir section of the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen on July 9th, where again they will compete with some of the best Choirs. Whilst the Choir still considers itself as a concert choir, rather than necessarily a competition choir, it is the belief of John Jenkins, Musical Director and the choristers, that competition entry certainly enhances concert performance.
Other concerts planned within the coming weeks include an afternoon performance in Leatherhead, Surrey followed by a fundraiser for Heronsbridge School, which will take place at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Bridgend. Details are available from Secretary, Jim Thomas Tel. 01656 654090.
The Choir practices on Thursday evenings at Hermon Chapel, Nolton Street, Bridgend commencing at 7.30 pm and new voices are always welcome.
