Bridgend Male Choir - Welcome
This more than 90-strong Welsh male voice choir has been established since 1960 in South Wales, when it was originally named the Bridgend Police Choir. The name was changed on the 1st May 1987 to the Bridgend and District Male Choir. In 2006 it simplified its name to Bridgend Male Choir (Cor Meibion Penybont). The Bridgend Male Choir has adopted and is committed to an Equal Opportunities Policy.

Bridgend Choir's competitive successes
The quality of singing is reflected in the choir's regular
Competitive Successes, notably including the Welsh National Eisteddfod - first in Newport, Gwent in 2004, where the Bridgend Male Choir won first prize and were presented with the Welsh Fusilier’s cup; then when the Choir went on to repeat this success at the "National" in Swansea in 2006.
The Bridgend Male Choir also achieved
'Best Male Choir' in S4C's Cor Cymru 2005 competition and again reached the final in 2007. It came 4th overall in the International Eisteddfod, Llangollen in July 2005, where the following comments were received from the International adjudication panel:
"You sing with good authority and the interpretation is well thought out and very convincing"
"The Bridgend Choir has a huge vocal resource"
"Very good authority in the singing of this fine ensemble"
As well as the Swansea Eisteddfod success, 2006 saw the Choir compete in England winning the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival of Music Performing Arts (see the
Competitions Page)
This South Wales choir in fact has a long history of competition successes, and can claim to be the only Welsh choir to have scored a remarkable double victory at the 1991 Concorso Internazionale Di Canto Corale, a prestigious festival held in Verona and taking in 20 top choirs from 6 countries. A further invitation to the festival for the Bridgend Male Choir came in April 2003 and resulted in an award of another silver cup, for the quality of the Choir's male voice singing.
Bridgend Choir Repertoire & Concerts
Despite regularly winning choral competitions, the Bridgend Male Choir see themselves first and foremost as a concert choir; with an ever-expanding repertoire of classical and folk pieces, traditional Welsh anthems, and popular songs from the shows.
Visits abroad have expanded the Bridgend choir's repertoire in many languages, and include three visits to Bridgend's German twin town Langenau, two to Berlin, one to Canada, one to France, two to Jersey and two to Italy. More recently a 2004 tour to Eire, 2005 to Spain, 2006 to the German cities of Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg and the towns of Shwieberdingen and Weissacht-Flacht and 2007 to Northern Ireland, including Belfast, Craigavon and Dunmurry, all of which being resounding successes. Future planned tours include visits to the Netherlands & Belgium in autumn, 2008, Austria in autumn 2009 and to celebrate its 50th Anniversary a 2010 tour to the USA and Canada.
The Bridgend Male Choir are always interested in organising choir tours, so please do
Contact Us if you would like to discuss possibilities of this Welsh Male Choir visiting you.
The majority of the concerts the Bridgend Male Choir performs are in aid of deserving charities. The total raised through these choir concerts since 1960 amounts to many thousands of pounds, helping those less fortunate than ourselves. If you would like to discuss arranging a choir concert with the Bridgend Male Choir for your charity, please contact us.
If you would like guidance in staging & organising a concert, please follow this link. There is also a great willingness to take to the professional stage, none more so than the most enjoyable sequence of concerts with Wales' national treasure Katherine Jenkins during 2006.
