ANNUAL FRIENDSHIP CONCERT SUCCESS

Saturday 06 December 2014

A full Church saw the Choirs of St. Mary's School and Bridgend Male Choir coming together for the annual music presentation supporting the Church. BMC opened under Musical Director, Rhiannon Williams-Hale and accompanists, Stephanie Bailey (Piano) & Scott Williams (Organ).
Popular items to the fore included, Yfory; Pan Fo'r Nos Yn Hir & the rousing Menof Harlech, contrasted with What a Wonderful World and Geraint Roberts' Amen before moving on to seasonal items. The always popular, First Noel, to the tune of Pachebel's Canon, with its brilliant accompaniment set the scene, before Tenor soloist, Gareth Reese entertained the capacity congregation with the AustrianCarol. Newer carols were also included, including Lyn Harry's Casatchok, words adapted for Christmas by BMC's MD.

Organist, Scott Williams, played In Dulci Jubilo, a traditional carol going back to the Middle Ages, before the excellent children's choir took to the stage.

The Children's choir just get better and better under their inspired music teacher. The little ones from one year become the bigger ones the next, bringing continuity & perpetuity to the choir sound. Looking smart in school uniform, the choristers sung a modern repertoire, the author's favourite being Celebration sung to a background of caribean music. The diction, discipline & considerable learning make this choir what it is. Both choirs wish their many supporters best wishes for the festive season.

Whilst the children can now focus on the countdown to Christmas Eve, the male choir is back in action on Wednesday at a sold-out concert in Tabernacle Chapel, Pontycymer compered by the BBC's Huw Edwards.
