Bridgend Male Choir Annual Concert

Thursday 21 September 2006

St Mary’s Catholic Church, Bridgend is again the venue for the Choir’s Annual Concert on Friday, 6th October 2006.

The Concert commences at 7 pm and tickets can be obtained from Choir Secretary, Gareth Reese on 01656 862037 or 07773 170373 or prior to commencement on the evening at the Church. The entry price is £8 which includes a programme & free raffle.

Under the leadership of maestro Musical Director, John Jenkins and his able Associate, Marcus Hopkin the Choir has enjoyed another fruitful year with two major competition successes. At the Cheltenham Performing Arts Festival in the spring, it won both the Folk and Male Voice Sections leading to being awarded the Gold Cup for the best Choir of 34 which participated during the Festival. It then went on to repeat its Newport success of 2004, by again winning the Fusiliers Cup at the Welsh National Eisteddfod, this time at Swansea in August. The year 2006 has also presented the opportunity to sing with Katherine Jenkins at the Cardiff International Arena and to perform with Fflur Wyn and Cerys Jones at Llandaff Cathedral. Only last weekend, the Choir had the opportunity to perform at Duffryn Gardens on the occasion of the recording of the BBC’s National Village Show, presented by Alan Titchmarsh. The Choir also completed a successful tour of the Stuttgart Region this year.

Choir concerts have again helped raise many £000’s for worthy charities, as well as presenting wonderful opportunities for enjoyment for its 80+ choristers. A number of new works have been learned, which the choristers look forward to singing at the “Annual”. Visitors also have the opportunity to purchase the Choir’s latest CD, “Live at Llandaff Cathedral” or it can be bought direct from this website.

Guests this year are Cor Meibion Cwm Llynfi, under the baton of Paul Deenik of Bridgend. Maesteg’s Ladies Choir needs little introduction as its reputation for the quality of its singing and content precedes it. The Choir is returning the compliment, as its Bridgend Male counterparts were delighted to have the opportunity to guest at the Ladies Choir Annual Concert some years ago at Maesteg’s wonderful town hall. Its not that often that such a good evening’s entertainment is available – don’t miss it!
