60th Anniversary Tour - Palma 2020

Detailed below for your information is the latest news regarding the above .It starts with a recent email from the chairman of the organising committee in Mallorca, Edward Ingram.

“Dear Gareth, I have planned a surprise venue, which holds 1300 people, surrounded with cafes and bars .It will be fantastic to celebrate your 60th anniversary. The owners are going to make sure that this event will be remembered for many years to come.”

Our choir media officer is already in touch with Edward to start promoting the concert which will take place on Friday 30th October 2020.

Extensive research by myself and our choir travel expert Rob Owen regarding flights has revealed all Palma flights from Cardiff cease next year on the 24th. Oct. 2020.

Airports still offering flights to Palma, are, Birmingham, Bristol, Heathrow and Gatwick.

We discounted Bristol, and the London airports for a number of reasons .Easyjet fly from Bristol but for group bookings they demand full payment of the fare upfront, a surcharge for each person in the group and high baggage charges. Flight times were also not good. Refunds are not negotiable and transfer of names chargeable also. Our preferred choice is to fly from Birmingham leaving at 07.00hrs on Weds.28th. Oct and returning at 14.40hrs on Sun 1st. Nov 2020 with Jet2 airways a low cost operator who offer a low deposit and very flexible booking terms and conditions.

The fare available to us now which includes air fare, 20kgs baggage allowance per person and coach charges to and from the airport is £330 each.

To reserve your place on the tour we will need a non- refundable deposit of £30 per person travelling by 17th Oct and 24th Oct at the very latest. Any later bookings there will likely be an increase to this cost.

A further £100 deposit per person will be required by Thursday 5th Dec.

The choir committee has agreed a subsidy of £200 per chorister travelling and a member of the weekly “Bonus Ball” weekly tote can expect a further £80-£100 contribution.

You should be aware that the price quoted is not a fixed price. Costs may rise due to finance, fuel and political reasons. Refunds to persons dropping out will be made when it is possible to do so with -out any costs being incurred by the choir. Travel to Birmingham Airport enabling us to arrive at the required 2 hours before take- off will necessitate a 2.30amstart from a single pick up point likely to be the Brewer Field car park.

Deposits should be paid to Rob Owen to secure your place on the aircraft.

The hotel will be the Zafiro Rey Don Jaime, Santa Ponsa where we stayed on the 2017 tour. Costs for the hotel will be available soon.

WARNING. You are responsible for travel insurance which if you commit to the tour should be arranged individually as soon as possible. The choir will not accept responsibility for any losses incurred.

Gareth Davies,Chairman
