Bridgend Male Choir first heard of Angharad Morgan, when the young soprano appeared with them at an Annual Choir Concert more than 10 years ago.
Angharad had won the Russell Sheppard Memorial Scholarship and, as was tradition, she was invited to appear with the Choir. The late Russell Sheppard, renowned for his music making, particularly with the youth of the county, was the father-in-law of the then BMC Musical Director, John Jenkins. Wendy Jenkins, daughter of Russell and widow of the late “JJ” remains a Vice President and staunch supporter of the Choir. Quite why it’s taken so long for Angharad to appear with the Choir again is a mystery, but a real treat for those attending the 2016 Annual Concert on Friday, 9th September from 7.00 pm.
Since graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Angharad has enjoyed great success with her musical career. She completed her studies with international tenor, Dennis O’Neill and soprano, Nuccia Focile, as well as having the privilege of being tutored by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. The winner of many awards, Angharad has gone on to pursue a professional operatic solo career. Her operatic roles and appearances are too numerous to mention here, but you can see and hear her quality at the upcoming concert venue, Tabernacle Church, Derwen Road, Bridgend shortly.
Joining Angharad at the Concert, is the Choir’s own Scott Williams to give a welcome organ recital. This is also the first Annual Concert for new Musical Director, Ryan Wood who, together with established accompanist & Deputy MD, Stephanie Bailey have been putting their choristers through their paces, expecting the highest possible standards. An exciting and varied content can be expected from all contributors.
