The Choristers and Music Team at Bridgend Male Choir are delighted that the Choir has been invited to participate in the Male Voice Choir competition at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July 2014.
The Choir last participated in 2005 when it finished just out of the prize money in fourth place in a competition won by Cor Godre'r Aran (Llanywllen, north Wales); the Diocesan Boys School Choir (Kowloon) and Linkoping University Choir (Sweden), but in front of the National Male Choir of New Zealand; Cor Brythoniad (Blaenau Ffestiniog); Warrington MVC and Dore MVC (Sheffield). At this stage other choirs invited for 2014 have not been announced, but there's no doubting the standard will be extremely high again. Having finished in second place at both the Majestic Male Choir Competition, Torquay and International Isle of Man Festival at Douglas in 2013, the Choir hopes to go one place better.
Learning the Choir's own choice of competition repertoire has already commenced under Musical Director, Rhiannon Williams-Hale and Accompanist, Stephanie Bailey who have the capability of coaching a likely 80 choristers to represent the town to high competitive standard. This competition repertoire, together with a number of other new items introduced for this new “term” give the choristers plenty to focus on.
The Bridgend Male Choir can next be heard on Saturday, 15th February at the Sony Theatre, Bridgend College Campus on Cowbridge Road, Bridgend. The Concert will also feature the harmonious Vocelle Ladies Choir, Pontyclun and the Children's Choir of Oldcastle School. The Concert is in aid of St John's Trust (Newcastle Hill).
