CAROLS AT SOUTHERNDOWN

Sunday 20 December 2015

Mair Stockford writes......on Friday December 18th, the Bridgend Male Choir and their President, Paul Porter, came to the golf club for the annual Carol Concert.

Led by their excellent Director of Music, Rhiannon Williams-Hale and talented accompanist Stephanie Bailey, they were warmly welcomed by Club Captain, Dyfrig Edwards. There followed a very enjoyable, varied and polished performance of many lovely carols including some with audience participation. One of the many highlights of the evening was the choir's rendition of a Russian Partisan song "Casatchok" which was sung with aplomb and superb, syncopated rhythm. Choir member and soloist Ken James, sang "Come back to Sorrento" in Italian, demonstrating the divergence of talent within the choir.

This famous, prestigious choir which has raised over £1,000,000 for charity since its formation over fifty years ago has won many awards including competing in 2014, The Best Choir in the World Awards at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. Everyone present wished them well for their ambitious and busy schedule in 2016, including the launch, on St David's Day, of their new CD "## Sounds Like." The whole evening, including a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie was a huge success and was , indeed, a very special Celebration of Christmas, enjoyed by the members and guests of Southerndown Golf Club.

Thank you Bridgend Male Choir, Mair Stockford
