Visits to two lovely local Churches were enjoyed by choristers.....
After helping Cancer charities at the local St Crallo's Church, Coychurch, the Choir moved on to another local Church this weekend to perform as part of its Harvest Festival. As with St Crallo's, the Choir was delighted to perform at St Bridget's Church at St Brides Major this time. This 900 year old building also enjoys a wonderful acoustic and an appreciative congregation made the Choir very welcome.
Soloists, Leon Evans, Graham Collins & Paul Carter and narrator, Alun Roberts Jones drew special applause, as did the Choir's organist, Scott Williams for his solo pieces and whose ears must have been ringing with the applause. With Musical Director, John Jenkins at the helm and the skilled fingers of piano accompanist, Laura Smith the Concert was always going to be a success and this was certainly the case.
His sense of humour and dedicated research makes the Choir's compere, Gareth Davies a delight for audiences & choristers alike. He was pleased to welcome Ryder Cup visitors from the USA states of Virginia and Maine and commented on the many American themes in the music programme, plus the Elvis Festival at Porthcawl. Many of the congregation joined the choristers for further musical enjoyment at the Fox and Hounds where the hospitality was very much appreciated.
Bridgend Male Choir continues with its 50th Birthday celebrations next week with a Saturday, 2nd October, Anniversary Concert at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl. The Choir's guests are the well loved Welsh entertainer, Max Boyce; singer, Eve Sherratt and comedian, Colin Price. A very small number of tickets are still available from the Box Office.
