Tim O'Hagan advises a change in personnel...
On Thursday, 9th May 2013, Bridgend Male Choir said a sad farewell to Laura Smith, who was accompanist for the choir for over six years. Laura joined the music team at Bridgend Male Choir in October 2006 under the direction of the late John Jenkins. JJ, as he was known to all, valued Laura's musicianship highly, as indeed did the whole choir and everyone else who had the pleasure of working with her. Laura worked diligently in choir rehearsals and in many concerts as accompanist and also as a soloist. She also played for many of the guest artists who appeared with the choir over the years. Laura will be much missed, and the choir wish her all the best in her musical career. We are sure to hear much more of such a talented pianist in the future. The Choir is fortunate to have co-accompanist, Stephanie Bailey who will continue in her role.
In the meantime, the choir is in the throes of preparing to take part in the Anglo-Welsh Festival of Male Choirs at Birmingham Town Hall on Saturday, 1st June 2013, and in St David's Hall, Cardiff on Saturday, 8th June 2013. Choirs participating include Biddulph; Bridgend; Canoldir; Cardiff Arms Park, Dowlais; Mynyddislwyn; Oxford Welsh, Penybontfawr & Pontarddulais. Tickets are available from the venues.
On Sunday, 9th June, we will be singing in the marquee at the conclusion of Mair's Walk for the Stepping Stones Cancer Charity appeal. The walk will be led this year by Choir Patron, Max Boyce MBE.
