Friday 01 February 2008

Alan Beckwith of Sigginston writes.....

Bridgend Male Choir visited Cowbridge on Friday 1st February to perform a Gala Concert in aid of the forthcoming Easter Humanitarian Aid convoy to Kosovo by Hope and Aid Direct, a registered charity.

This year, in addition to the Bridgend Choir, there were performances by the Cowbridge Choral Society and soloist Vanessa Thomas, with the evening culminating in three songs performed by the combined choirs and soloist. The programme in the first half included Bridgend choir singing Gwahoddiad, Rachie, Lisa Lan, and the beautiful American Trilogy,  Vanessa Thomas singing Bist du bei mir by J S Bach and Silent Noon by R Vaughan Williams, and the Cowbridge Choral Society performing The Lord is My Shepherd and Laudamus, amongst other selections. The lighter second half included Unchained Melody By the Bridgend choir, Migldi Magldi by Vanessa Thomas and The Phantom of the Opera by Cowbridge choir.

One member of the audience commented at the interval that the sound of the choirs “Made your hair stand on end!” and this comment echoed that feelings of other members of the audience. The Wales and West co-ordinator for Hope and Aid Direct, Alan Beckwith, expressed his thanks to the two choirs for their hard work in providing such an excellent evening which resulted in a very successful evening to support the work of the charity.
