INTERNATIONAL SPORT AND THE LAND OF SONG

Sunday 24 July 2016

Singing & sport (mainly watching) are favourite chorister pastimes.

With a history in recent years of singing at International sporting events, Bridgend Male Choir choristers fondly recollect singing a welcome to returning, victorious Cycling Road Race World Champion, Nicole Cooke and singing the Welsh National Anthem in Cardiff at boxing's World Champion, Joe Calzage's successful unification title fight against the Dane, Mikkel Kessler.

The current singing year however is unsurpassed for the boys from Bridgend. No less than four major sporting appearances will have heard its choristers entertaining.

Wales vs. France home team's success in the Rugby Six Nation's Championships opened its programme and this weekend it sang a welcome to competitors at the Ladies Under 25's Bowls Home International Series hosted at Bridgend Municipal Bowls Club. Still to come are a welcome invitation from the Football Association of Wales to its Launch Dinner to celebrate the award of the Football Champion's League Final to Cardiff in 2017 and a return visit to the sport of king's,  Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow at the year end, when also appearing will be Wales very own singing superstar, Bryn Terfel.

Exciting times indeed and an honour for the Choir to attend these sporting events.
