Once again, this choir showed the audience at St Peter’s the wonderful range of music available to delight the listeners. The Choir has had many competitive successes, winning major prizes in Verona and the Cheltenham Festival. Twice National Eisteddfod winners, the choir has been the S4C Male Choir of the Year. Over a million pounds has been raised for charity and in 2010 the Choir, and Chairman, Mansel Abraham, were recognised by the Bridgend CBC with two Citizen Awards.
Conductor, John Jenkins BA, FTCL, ARCM, LTCL is well know for his work in establishing highly successful youth orchestras, choirs and bands when he was Music Adviser to the West Glamorgan LEA. As always, John showed us how he is able to bring out the best of the choir’s musical talents.
Accompanist, Laura Smith MMus, BA, ARCM has performed superbly in venues like the Wales Millennium Centre and St. David’s Hall and is held in high esteem by the conductor and Choir alike. She played a particularly difficult piece of music, holding the audience spellbound .
We must not forget the beautiful soloist renderings by Gwyn Williams, Leon Evans, and Paul Carter. Also thanks to Compere Gareth Davies for his part in the entertainment.
Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to welcome back the Bridgend Male Choir to St Peter’s.
