Media Officer, David Burt writes........

Many congratulations to Ifor Lewis & his helpers for organising a splendid outdoor festival of choral music at Coity Castle last weekend. Bridgend Male Choir thoroughly enjoyed its participation and looks forward to returning in future years. Audience attendance levels were the best yet, which can only be good news for the beneficiaries, Bridgend Carers Group.

Bridgend Male Choir’s next engagement is at the private Cardiff University International Conference of Manufacturing Engineers Dinner to be held in the elegant surroundings of the National Museum of Wales at Cathays Park on Thursday, 25th June. Just a few days later on Sunday, 28th a number of individual choristers will be joining the congregation for an S4C recording, Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol at Cardiff Bay.

Next up is supporting another excellent annual event which grows in popularity each year. The Stepping Stones Charity for Lung Cancer Research is the beneficiary for what is locally known as Mair’s Charity Walk. At this event on Sunday, 5th July many people will raise sponsorship walking from Newbridge Fields to Ogmore Village. A number of choristers are joining in the walk, hopefully saving some energy for the post walk vocal entertainment.

A military presence gathers at the Bridgend Male Choir’s final July public performance on Friday, 17th.  In what has become an excellent association between the Choir and the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers, both will join up again, this time at Haberdashers School, Monmouth. Another worthy charity will benefit from this performance, the Army Benevolent Fund. The association goes back many years, but this is the first joint venture since Col. Andrew Tuggay became a welcome Vice President of the Choir.

The remainder of June and July is taken up with attendance at three weddings, two of which are for choristers’ children. Choristers are delighted to join the celebrations for the families of Dave Davison and Phil Edwards.
